A significant work of Finnish documentary photography, Ihminen pääosassa brings together 239 photographs made during the 1960s and early 1970s. Self-published in 1989 and designed by Pertti Hietanen, the book presents photographs made when Ismo Hölttö was in his twenties. Travelling with photographer Mikko Savolainen and using a Rolleiflex camera, Hölttö photographed people in Helsinki and across Finland, from urban streets to North Karelia, Savonia and the Oulu region, creating portraits of children, elderly people, workers, Romani communities and rural families.
Hölttö’s photographs challenged idealised images of Finland, presenting a more honest and compassionate vision of a nation undergoing rapid social change and urbanisation. Beautifully reproduced in rich tritone printing, this body of work invites comparison with August Sander’s People of the Twentieth Century. Both photographers created enduring portraits of society through its people, but where Sander’s work often feels formal, composed and typological, Hölttö’s is marked by warmth, curiosity and human connection.

Clement Cooper, born in Manchester in 1965, grew up in the multicultural neighbourhoods of Moss Side and Longsight. After receiving his first camera at the age of 17, he began documenting the world around him, focusing on young people and the influence of key social spaces such as the church, the pub, and local dance events.

Published in 1988, the work provides a rare and significant visual record of Moss Side during a period of profound social and cultural change, shaped by post-industrial decline, migration, and a strong sense of community identity. Photographic records of this kind made from within the community are relatively scarce, which gives Cooper’s work particular importance as a document of lived experience that has often been overlooked in mainstream photography and publishing.

A faithful facsimile of Bruno Munari’s rare 1970 artist’s book Xerografia, originally produced by Rank Xerox for the XXXV Venice Biennale. Issued as a non-commercial publication documenting Munari’s experiments with the Xerox 914 photocopier, the original edition was never intended for retail distribution and remains exceptionally scarce today.

Beginning in 1963, Munari used the Xerox 914 not simply as a copying device but as an artistic instrument, at a moment when photocopying was still a novel technology. By moving images during the scanning process, he transformed a commercial office machine into a tool for image-making, exploring movement, repetition, and chance while challenging traditional ideas of artistic production.

Through this process, Munari championed the idea that new technologies could democratise artistic production, making creativity more accessible and opening up new possibilities for visual expression beyond conventional methods and materials.

An original cut-and-paste style mini poster for an underground spoken word and performance art event held in San Francisco during the winter of 1992.The countercultural event’s title draws inspiration from the seminal 1991 feminist punk anthology Angry Women, published by San Francisco's RE/Search Publications, which catalysed a regional wave of radical performance art. The flyer preserves an important historical intersection of the early 1990s poetry slam boom, punk feminism, and early cyberpunk subcultures. The featured lineup serves as a directory of Bay Area fringe icons of the decade, including gothic punk author Danielle Willis, spoken word poet and novelist Bucky Sinister, activist and future Manic D Press founder Kathi Georges, and multimedia performance artist Simone Third Arm, who shortly thereafter signed to Trent Reznor's Nothing Records. Held at the transient, industrial Submit Theatre space.

Twenty years ago a series of exhibitions entitled Fig1 (52 shows in 52 weeks) was concluded with a party at Notre Dame Hall in London’s Leicester Square where Michael Clark performed a version of Dancing to the Fall. Simon Pentleton and Josephine Soughan were there to capture the moment on a miniDV camera. This publication is a printed version and record of their film.

An exhibition poster for Lucas Samaras, produced for a 1985 presentation at the Frankfurter Kunstverein. The poster relates to Samaras’s photographic practice, particularly his Polaroid-based portraits and staged studio works, in which he explored constructed identity and the manipulation of the photographic image through framing, reflection, and colour. It extends from his earlier experiments in which he directly intervened in the surface of Polaroid prints during development.

A poster for an Allan Kaprow "happening", which consisted of a deliberately tiny parade, just a couple of city blocks along 7th Street NW - featuring about 150 local children carrying poles with streamers, rolling tires, banging on oil drums, and blowing whistles. The piece poked fun at the scale and pomp of traditional parades by compressing the event into a short, noisy burst of activity, transforming an everyday street into a fleeting spectacle before quickly dispersing.
