Original exhibition poster for John Maybury’s Circus Logic, commissioned and presented at the ICA, London, in 1984. The exhibition combined four half-hour video works with an installation incorporating fresco painting, ultraviolet light, magic marker, day-glo and powder paint on canvas.
The reverse of the poster describes the works as exploring the saturation of television imagery, the language of pop videos and advertising, and imagery that would not normally be permissible for broadcast.
Circus Logic I–IV screened alongside excerpts from Pagan Idolatry and The Dream Machine. The latter was a collaborative experimental film by Derek Jarman, Michael Kostiff, John Maybury and Cerith Wyn Evans, inspired by Brion Gysin’s Dream Machine.
