Ephemeral Matters: Into the Fashion Archive is the comprehensive catalog accompanying the exhibition at the National Museum in Oslo. This volume explores the often-overlooked artifacts of the fashion industry—collectively known as ephemera—including invitations, catalogues, advertisements, and illustrations spanning from the 18th century to the present.
Featuring over 500 documents and objects from renowned fashion houses and designers such as Maison Martin Margiela, Yohji Yamamoto, Dries Van Noten, Balenciaga, Patrick Kelly and Jean Charles de Castelbajac. The catalogue provides a rich visual and historical insight into fashion’s transient yet influential materials.
Curated in collaboration with guest curator Marco Pecorari, the book builds upon his research into fashion archives, particularly his work Fashion Remains: Rethinking Ephemera in the Archive. The featured materials are drawn from six distinguished public and private collections, including Palais Galliera in Paris, Diktats, RareBooksParis, the Queer Zine Archive Project, the International Library of Fashion Research, and the National Museum’s own documentation archive.
