In Byker Finnish-born photographer Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen offers an intimate and poignant portrayal of the working-class community in Byker, Newcastle upon Tyne, during the 1970s. Having made Byker her home for seven years, Konttinen documented the daily lives, traditions, and spirit of a neighborhood on the brink of transformation due to impending redevelopment. Her evocative photographs capture the essence of a close-knit community facing the challenges of change, preserving the memory of a disappearing way of life.
